Ouverture (Prelude)

A musical term describing the first movements in an orchestral suite, Ouverture is a prelude to the vision of Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea as it gathers seventy local and foreign artists of different persuasions, of different aesthetics, and of different pictorial idioms, for its opening show in 2019.

The new Altro Mondo Creative Space features artworks, first and foremost, of Filipino artists, and intersperse it with international artists, in conjunction with various programming and activities. Ouverture, just like art being inspired by music, is in sync with the Philippine Art Community.

Back in March 2010 when the gallery opened in a commercial space, it has always been very much attuned with the changing landscape of arts. The art hub—consisting of the main gallery, two mezzanine galleries (Espace Celine and Spazio Franco), a multimedia room (Monteverdi), and an Artists’ Lane—solidifies the bigger role of Altro Mondo as a credible institution.

From eminent artists in the likes of BenCab, David Medalla, and Betsy Westendorp to emerging artists such as Winner Jumalon, Olivia D’ Aboville, J Consunji, and Jinggoy Buensuceso, Altro Mondo is providing a larger venue to showcase artworks of various forms and themes. The gallery also features works of international artists like Agostino Arrivabene, Christophe Avella Bagur, Dragan Zdravković, Nicola Verlato, Predrag Popara, and a lot more.

The decision to expand the gallery is Altro Mondo’s way of accepting the challenge of going through the process of opening and reopening an existing gallery, and by doing that, it welcomes more possibilities of premiering more artists and the best art pieces.
